Ok, fair enough. "java stuff" reminds me of the default-jre problem, which we addressed a while ago by dropping the Break from default-jre. Maybe there is another one, which causes APT to bail out. That said, I can no longer really contribute to this bug as I'm not able to reproduce. Anyone experiencing this problem should probably make a copy of /var/lib/dpkg/status so we/David can have a look.
