Package: libdvdread4
Version: 4.2.0+20120521-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The libdvdread-provided README.css file says:

libdvdread probes for libdvdcss at runtime and if found, will use it to
decrypt sections of the DVD as necessary.

However, /usr/local is not evidently checked. When compiling from source, one
of the recommended options, a direct install or a more sanity install using
stow(8) will both default to installing in /usr/local, and hence won't be
found by libdvdread. (At least, that's my experience here.)

I worked around this by saying stow -t /usr libdvdcss to locate the library
in /usr/lib, but it would be more elegant if /usr/local was searched, so
that local packages could be confined there.

Thanks!
