Bug#687500: Plymouth hangs in console instead of switching to display manager

I also have this problem on my 2 Thinkpad machines (IBM T41 and a Lenovo T400). 
The have different graphics chipsets - one ATI radeon M7500 and one Intel GM45. 
They are both using GDM / Gnome 3.4 and possibly importantly both using 
tp_smapi kernel patch.
I however don't have this issue on my HP Compaq 6910p laptop with the same 
intel graphics card as one of the Thinkpads, but running GDM / Gnome 3.6.
Are those of you experiencing this problem also running on Thinkpads?
