Package: socat
Version: 1.7.1.3-1.4
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Linux has an IP-level (level=SOL_IP) socket option called
IP_TRANSPARENT, which allows binding on a non-local address (with
superuser privileges) to implement transparent proxy support. It
would be useful if socat could have an option to reflect this.

There's also IP_FREEBIND, along similar (but subtly different) lines,
which might also be interesting to have. Not that I wouldn't mind
having access to every single option listed in ip(7) under socat, but
I can imagine it can be a pain to keep track of. :-)

Cheers,
