Helvetica? I am not going to install fonts not in Debian to test this, sorry.
(yes, I installed fonts-liberation, ttf-mscorefonts-installer and even 
fonts-linuxlibertine)
Well, it's pretty unlikely that it's a font problem, so let's continue ;-)

I used the default (Arial, 18), created 1 testbox, cut'n'pasted, clicked/edited 
them various times
(> 10). No crash.

Anyway and besides that, is only 3.5.4 affected? 3.5.x is a dead series 
upstream and because
of the freeze we don't even ship the latet version - 3.5.7 - of that. 3.6.4 is 
in experimental
and 4.0.0 beta2 is available on people.debian.org/~rene/libreoffice/4.0.0. Care 
to try with them
(then we at least would know it's fixed upstream somehow)
