FTR: this bug also manifests itself with the newer
linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64 package (as of 3.2.32-1) and
A8-3870-integrated Radeon HD 6550D graphics. (Or should I try
        the version currently in Sid?)

Strangely enough, I don't seem to recall for the recent kernels
to misbehave on Radeon HD 6450: the ‘radeon’ module seems to
refrain from enabling KMS there unless firmware can be found.

FWIW, having the “pure” Debian GNU/Linux (as in: Debian main)
fail in such a way seems like quite an issue. Thus, I still
hope that this issue could be dealt with before release. TIA.
