If "samba" is installed the samba daemon from samba4 starts up, but it is still useless, as it uses smbd from samba3 which cannot authenticate any users (probably because some AD/Kerberos support is missing in the old smbd binary).

Without samba3 installed I'm getting this: > # samba -i -M single > samba version 4.0.0rc5 started. > Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2012 > samba: using 'single' process model > /usr/sbin/smbd: Failed to exec child - No such file or directory > file_server smbd daemon died with exit status 255 > task_server_terminate: [smbd child process exited] When I have samba3 installed, the samba4 process starts up without any errors, but clients still cannot connect (getting "USER@ADDOMAIN" cannot be authenticated or something like that). This means that: * samba4 needs to ship it's own smbd binary * the packages "samba" and "samba4" may not be installed at the same time, as mixed version numbers between the "samba" and "smbd" processes will obviously cause issues Regards, Frederik -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
