It appears to be the very same situation, and workaround actually works! you've just breathed-in a new life into my favorite songs, thanks! I am still not sure about stability of xmms, but for now I could not replicate any xmms hangs so far, let's hope it will stay so. If you don't hear from me in 3 days, that means the problem is *solely* in file content recognition. It's a bit strange: according to behavior, that option should be called "Content and Extension" rather than "Extension and Content". As a user, I would like to have file type detected by extension and if it fails only then try looking at content as it is written on panel :-/ Before, I could not understand those options and even did not suspect that such file content recognition feature actually exists, and libmpg123.so and not libvorbis.so is to be configured/blamed...
