Yes, this should explain why I still get Type 1 fonts embedded in my
documents, even after this problem.

I can't wait to see when teTeX 3 hits unstable (and, then, migrates into
testing, which is what I actually use). Hopefully, the problems with
xmltex will have been addressed and composing documents in docbook will
not be a problem anymore.
