GNOME or whatever (xdg-*) which does the copying from the "real" menu
to wher you copy it to.

Given that I mostly read mail without X that will make answering bug
reports much harder. If you want that... *shrugs*

Yes, I should - if you gave a proper description of the report (that you
got a invalid symlink instead of the +x nonsense.)

The closing was a bit too fast yes, but with that description it was clear.
Desktop files DO NOT have to be +x.
