Thanks for writing. I actually think the package needs technical work mostly. I respectfully disagree about removing the current package from experimental being a harmful thing to do at all. Indeed, it would make it clearer to potential testers that they should look to the packaging VCS, and it would mean we were not asking mirror admins to violate the GPL any more. This bug has been known for more than a year, and once it is fixed the package could return to the archive. FTP team, please remove ensembl/63-1. If I understand correctly, the maintainers oppose this. I think it is important anyway, for the reasons described above. If there is anything I can do to help the packaging effort (e.g., testing), please don't hesitate to let me know.
