And oh. Can you please check if 5.0.6 still has this issue, before going too much further? Because there were TONS of bugfixes between the two versions. I made a backoport, 5.0.6-2~bpo60+1, which has some rough edges in the maint scripts (you can't purge it easily) but it does not affect package functionality.
