Well, the reason why I wrote the request for using the alternatives system is that I want to package a newer, non-free version of unace for <debian-unofficial.org>. It's a site which is all about packages, that are not in the official Debian archive for e.g. legal reasons. We do *not* want to offer packages which compete with official Debian ones, but offer non-free alternatives. The unace-package will be called something like unace2-binary and it will provide the files /usr/bin/unace and /usr/man/man1/unace.1 (which will be your manpage revised for unace version 2.xx) among others. Because we do not want our package to conflict with the free unace in Debian (your package), but coexist, both of us need to use the alternatives system for the forementioned files. By the way, the version of unace we are going to package is 2.20, since 2.50 is undistributable due to a license change. The upstream author is allready contacted about that...
