I just ran into this same problem. If we do not apply this vendor patch
to rpm, do you have any suggestions of other ways to work around it? The
only thing I can think of would be to build a fake dependency RPM and
install it into the mock chroot somehow before mock runs yum install. A
bit awkward compared to applying a vetted patch from essentially
upstream.

Keep in mind, you can use a straight yum command to build a Fedora
chroot and get the same error, so it's not just a problem for mock to
solve.

This may only affect F17 and F18 for now, but that means 2 or 3 years
from now if I want to install a F18 chroot the problem is still there.
Also this may appear in the next RHEL7 release.
