This bug doesn't break unrelated software. It also doesn't break this software, expect in a non-standard configuration. You can use alternate backends, but I don't believe active measures to disable the one you aren't will work since the package was compiled with bind support. From what I can determine this is a build time option, not something you can change at runtime.
