No way to do it as it stands, but we discussed this problem with Rhonda, and agreed on that I'll prepare 2.1.10-3 targetting testing with the only fix to this bug applied, then we'll ask for a freeze exception. The diff [1] is not terribly large but not trivial either, but at least we could try.
