I confim the bug reported by Rupert Swarbrick.

But even pointing those two lines to the the right place, it won't
work because the command mkinitrd invoked on
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/plymouth/plymouth-update-initrd no longer
exists on my system.

For me it worked editing
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/plymouth/plymouth-update-initrd to:

#!/bin/bash
update-initramfs -u  -k $(uname -r)
