This bug is caused by the ongoing libmysqlclient12 -> libmysqlclient14 transition. As it stands, libmysql-ruby1.8, php4-mysql, and php5-mysql link against libmysqlclient12, while python2.[234]-mysqldb and libdbd-mysql-perl link against libmysqlclient14. This means that if you attempt to load mod_perl with php4 or mod_ruby, and you have a perl script that's causing libmysqlclient to be loaded, apache will crash. Please convert libmysql-ruby to libmysqlclient14 (a build-dep on libmysqlclient14-dev will do the trick).
