Package: usbmount Version: 0.0.22 Severity: important All my hotplugged usb devices are owned by root and only writable by the superuser. This can't possibly be the way this is supposed to work. A user needs to be able to plug-in a usb stick and have write access to this stick without having root access.
As far as I can see this is not a dup of #544900 since in that thread it states that the device is owned by root, but the user still could create directories on the device, whereas I cannot (see below): josh@howlingfantods:/media$ df | grep usb Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sdg1 3895924 2436220 1459704 63% /media/usb0 /dev/sdg1 3895924 2436220 1459704 63% /media/usb1 (why is this double mounted?) josh@howlingfantods:/media$ l /media/usb* total 52 drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 4096 May 28 17:52 ./ drwxr-xr-x 25 root root 4096 Jun 3 17:13 ../ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 Jan 28 18:30 usb -> usb0/ drwxr-xr-x 22 root root 8192 Jan 1 1970 usb0/ drwxr-xr-x 22 root root 8192 Jan 1 1970 usb1/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 28 18:30 usb2/ . . josh@howlingfantods:/media$ mkdir usb0/blah mkdir: cannot create directory `usb0/blah': Permission denied I'm in the plugdev group in case that's relevant: josh@howlingfantods:/media$ grep josh /etc/group . . cdrom:x:24:josh floppy:x:25:josh . . plugdev:x:46:josh all in all very bothersome... cheers, -j -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-1-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages usbmount depends on: ii lockfile-progs 0.1.16 ii udev 175-3.1 ii util-linux 2.20.1-1.2 Versions of packages usbmount recommends: ii pmount 0.9.23-2 usbmount suggests no packages. -- debconf information: perl: warning: Setting locale failed. perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = (unset), LC_ALL = (unset), LC_TIME = "en_US.utf8", LC_MONETARY = "en_US.utf8", LC_MEASUREMENT = "en_US.utf8", LC_NUMERIC = "en_US.utf8", LC_PAPER = "a4paper", LANG = "en_US.utf8" are supported and installed on your system. perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C"). locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory -- debsums errors found: perl: warning: Setting locale failed. perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = (unset), LC_ALL = (unset), LC_TIME = "en_US.utf8", LC_MONETARY = "en_US.utf8", LC_MEASUREMENT = "en_US.utf8", LC_NUMERIC = "en_US.utf8", LC_PAPER = "a4paper", LANG = "en_US.utf8" are supported and installed on your system. perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C"). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
