default-jre is installed as a dependancy of the Graphical Desktop Environment
As a workaround installing Squeeze without the Graphical Desktop Environment for upgrading to Wheezy does sidestep the issue, but is not a solution as it would cause problems for anyone upgrading an existing Squeeze desktop environment install.
