I don't know what could be causing that. However, I do know that there is different problem when combining SyncEvolution 1.2.2 with EDS 3.4: photos are not getting exported correctly. I'm a few days away from releasing 1.2.99.1 which will fix that. I'm testing it regularly against EDS 3.4.x, without issues. Can we get the 1.2.99.x pre-release(s) into Debian before the next release?
