I ran into this bug too.
$ echo abc | egrep -i -o B
I'm told that the egrep in Ubuntu's Hoary
distribution works.
Greg Wooledge (greycat) suggested trying their
patches in
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/grep/grep_2.5.1.ds1-4ubuntu1.diff.gz
