Package: src:linux-2.6 Followup-For: Bug #670958 Hi. I return with new info.
So, I tried the latest upstream kernel (3.4.0-rc5+) and the problem is still there. In the meantime, I stumbled upon a forum thread [1] on the Archlinux forum which describes that after kernel 2.6.38.2-1, backlight setting stopped working on 2 HP laptop models. Backlight isn't working on my model as well (since as far as I can remember). I tried with acpi_backlight=video, acpi_backlight=legacy and acpi_backlight=vendor at boot, but nothing worked. Backlight doesn't work neither by setting /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness. 1: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=117556 So this is starting to look like an ACPI problem more and more. And I'm betting it affects the majority of HP laptops released after 2008 - 2009 which have the same ACPI and BIOS implementation. So far I have determined that the following HP laptop models are affected: - HP Probook 451x - HP Compaq 315 (Ralf's) - HP 6735-s (alculquicondor from the Archlinux forum thread) ACPI functionalities that are broken so far: - power_supply (battery and AC events - this bug) - backlight setting I don't know what's the next best course of action. I guess I can start getting dirty and bissecting the releases between 2.6.37 and 2.6.38~rc6... I hope to have some results soon. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
