When trying to open Edit > Preferences, transmission-gtk suddenly uses
100% of
one of my CPU, nothing else happend, and suddenly closes.

I also tried with transmission-qt, the Preferences window opens, but
tranmission-qt is terribly slow. It takes several seconds for
transmission-qt
to launch itself, and then each action requires something like 15/20
seconds to
see it done on the screen... Maybe these informations could help.
