tags 656716 + moreinfo thanks It seems to me that this is as documented in Chapters 5.3 and 5.4 in the manual. If you want text/x-gettext not to be displayed using the internal viewer you could set auto_view text/x-gettext in your .muttrc .
You can then use 'm' in the attachment menu to view the message using vim. Does this solve your problem?
