I have not used libsane-perl since, but scanimage instead. I just
tried libsane-perl and I was appauled at the multi-register options
and the lack of scan profiles.

I do wonder why you have all these backends, instead of just one.
What's the benefit? Wouldn't it be better to have one backend and
polish that until it glistens?
