Actually I would like to have an option which is safe for scripting and one which adopts to the interactive terminal width. And I agree with the rewrite. However I would prefer to do that in a 2.x branch. I have some of the patches which are part of debian now pending for an upstream release. 2.x can also be netdev based (I wonder if there are (embedded?) systems where this is undesireable?)
