A workaround:
echo "PreferredDecoders+=mp3(mp3)" >> $HOME/.moc/config
so moc will allways use libmad0 for playing mp3's

I was just about to post the same thing (with "vi ~/.moc/config"
instead of "echo ... >> ...", but that amounts to the same, since
there is still no such option set in the file).
There is some explanation of this option in config.example.gz.
(And yes: I did try it and it works!)
