Implemented in CVS 0.8.1.52: In the 'Start a new game' the 'Create game' button will start gnocatan-server-gtk (if installed). Starting a game on the meta server (if the metaserver does support it) is possible with the 'New remote game' button in the 'Join a public game' dialog.
