| themselves, but it is not the best way of getting help.

All is well. The explanation is clear and it was my error. I usually
do read manuals, but sometimes it happens that I do a "grep" and jump
right to the location (with Emacs M-x grep, grep-find, man etc.) and
try to understand what reads at that spot.

In this case, the explanation was earlier in the file, which I didn't
see.
