Package: tetex-base Version: 2.0.2c-4 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 9.1.2
Hello, I'm sorry to have to file this bug :-( but I think that shipping directories under /usr/local in the tetex-base .deb is a Policy violation; see section 9.1.2, fourth paragraph. The rationale is that if I try to install the package on a computer where /usr/local is mounted read-only (e.g. as an NFS share), the installation will fail. (In my case at least, this is more than just a theoretical worry.) Hence all creation of /usr/local subdirectories must be done in postinst scripts, and must not cause the installation to fail if the directory cannot be created. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-powerpc Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages tetex-base depends on: ii debconf 1.4.42 Debian configuration management sy ii dpkg 1.10.26 Package maintenance system for Deb ii texinfo 4.7-2.2 Documentation system for on-line i ii ucf 1.13 Update Configuration File: preserv -- debconf information excluded regards, -- Kevin B.
