Hi, I've just been bitten by fontconfig's disabling of bitmap fonts. >From rading bug reports, this is apparently in retaliation for some sort of bug in freetype, but I see no corresponding bug report in the bug tracking system. Upon examination of the output of konsole in the GIMP, the bitmap font seems to be rendered exactly as specified in the font file. Perhaps the "problem" is the absence of subpixel hinting for LCDs in bitmapped fonts? Perhaps the bug has been fixed? All the complaints about freetype I see are about a year old.
