First, I notice, that you have mysql-client 4.1.7-2 but libmysqlclient14
4.1.8a-6. Moreover there is no package mysql-client with version 4.1.x,
it should be mysql-client 4.0.x and mysql-client-4.1 version 4.1.x.
I guess you once installed MySQL 4.1.x from experimental/? Possible?
In any case, if you run mysql-server 4.0.x you should remove mysql-client
and reinstall the proper 4.0.x version with apt-get or if you run mysql-server
4.1.x you should remove mysql-client and install mysql-client-4.1.

dpkg -l "*mysql*" | grep ^.i
which mysqladmin
ldd `which mysqladmin`
