I still cannot reproduce the problem. Is this only happening on one particular image, or can you reproduce it by creating a new, blank 3000x2000 image and applying the filter from there?
I just investigated a little bit more time.

On my machine in the institut I do not so frequent updates, which left it with

   machine_with_old_gimp$ dpkg --status gimp
   Package: gimp
   Status: install ok installed
   Priority: optional
   Section: graphics
   Installed-Size: 7600
   Maintainer: Ari Pollak <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
   Architecture: i386
   Version: 2.0.6-1

The procedure worked fine on this machine. At home I have installed the
version as shown in the bug report, which shows the problem. You can find
the problematic file including the selection at

   http://people.debian.org/~tille/tmp/

$ md5sum EuropeanParliament.xcf.bz2 a8b82d0dd3644d3e24445fa5f30b341b EuropeanParliament.xcf.bz2
$ ls -l EuropeanParliament.xcf.bz2 -rw-r--r-- 1 tillea admin 7280590 2005-01-25 18:25 EuropeanParliament.xcf.bz2

Kind regards

          Andreas.
