How about putting the DFSG/GPL-compatible source on Savanna (or similar), so that there is a (new) canonical place to get VCG. Of course, politely ask the original authors about their opinion first. But I am by no means going to be obstructive over this. The conclusion seems to be that the CPL is OK.
