It's not clear what you need.  You wanted the ability to have Xprt
invoked only when you want it to, not automatically, which is
what /etc/default/xprint provides.  Why is editing /etc/default/xprint a
problem in order to achieve this?  Xprint does not have Super-Cow
powers, bear in mind.  It can't read your mind telepathically.
