Yeah, sorry; I was sort of rambling along in my head and typing at the
same time. I probably should have removed this section once I figured
out the stuff I listed below it.

True, you can, but the proposed way happens to make it drastically simpler
within debpool; it's just an additional set of forward aliases with no
reverse handling needed, and which can have certain requirements enforced
for sanity sake (that they must target an existing, real distribution).

I think I have enough to go with it for now - and enough to agree that
this is worth implementing.
