Package: firestarter Version: 1.0.1-1 Hi,
(This is almost the same as bug #220017, which was fixed, but refers to a new set of networks.) firestarter's list of non-routable networks includes a number of networks that are not yet allocated. The problem is that it's rather out of date; if you look at the Team Cymru bogon list at http://www.cymru.com/Documents/bogon-list.html then you'll see that various networks which have been allocated in the last year are still blocked by firestarter by default. Users of firestarter thus won't be able to communicate with users in newly-allocated networks. For example, /etc/firestarter/non-routables includes: 71.0.0.0/8 72.0.0.0/8 But these have been allocated to ARIN since August: * 71/8 and 72/8 allocated to ARIN (AUG 2004). Removed from the bogon lists. And there are users in those networks now: azz:~$ jwhois 72.14.128.0 [Querying whois.arin.net] [whois.arin.net] OrgName: TFB NET OrgID: TFBNET [...] Since this causes chunks of the Internet to be unnecessarily unreachable for end users, it'd be nice to get this fixed in the stable version of firestarter too if it hasn't already been done. This is a Debian 3.1 machine, kernel 2.6.8-1-686, libc 2.3.2.ds1-18.
