This is consistent with the bug. It is FTBFS with any other automake than 1.4, but now you claim that just not build depending on it fixes the FTBFS? That can't be correct, as the situation that caused the FTBFS would be exactly the same if one happens to have a certain automake installed that isn't compatible. Will it ftbfs or not?
