reassign 289762 mysql-server
severity 289762 critical
tags 289762 patch
thanks

hi folks,

i have some good news, and some bad news.

the good news is that i've figured out where the problem is.
the bad news is that there's not much we can do about it,
other than forward the bug to the mysql-server maintainer.

4.0.23 introduced a "bugfix" for the FROM_UNIXTIME
function which inadvertently introduced another bug, which
will break many applications (including nagios-mysql) that rely on
referencing the epoch in DATETIME variables.

more on the bug can by found at:

http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=7515

and the patch that fixes it (from their bk changeset 1.2014) is attached.

christian: could you let us know if you would accept this patch
for the current upstream version of mysql-server until the next version
is released? the patch applies cleanly (-p1) to the current source
package.

if not, i'll conflict nagios against 4.0.23 for the time being. also,
feel free to change the severity to what you feel is appropriate, i felt
that "makes unrelated software on the system (or the whole system) break"
justified at least initially filing the bug with said severity.

thanks,
        sean
