This is because + is being interpreted as a deprecated alias for --. I've reset the prefix_pattern for GetOptions so that this won't happen and hopefully all previous behavior has been restored.
Of course, you still have to quote that thing correctly. I enclosed it within single quotes during testing, else it'd pick up -r as an option.
The tentative fix has been committed to SVN. Please tell me how it fares.
