esd is executed at the start of Gnome session. Everything is OK: I can
hear system sounds, applications' clics and so on. But sooner or
later, an application (galeon for instance or control center or some
applet) gets completely locked after a sound clic (and in fact "locks"
other application).
For example: I have been launching some applets. I have launched the
keyboard applet. Then I've decided to remove it from panel. I have
heard a clic when I have selected the "Remove from panel" option but
the applet still was here (well, in fact only the shaded box of the
applet). Then I have executed galeon: after a minute or so galeon's
window wasn't in desktop. In an xterm I have executed "killall esd"
and then magically galeon's window was in desktop and the keyboard
applet shaded box disaapeared from panel. My intuition is that esd was
locking keyboard applet and any other application that use system
sounds. After killing esd all of these applications are unlocked and
run normally. I have been experiencing this problem several times and
with different applications. Sooner or later, I always have to kill
esd to run applications normally in gnome session... but without sound
:-(
