When you first start playing, your MMR will have a wide confidence interval and it'll match you semi-randomly. The outcomes of those placement games will determine what level of player you get matched with for a while after. As an individual, don't you feel you'd need a lot of luck in being matched with the right people to start, since the game so heavily depends on team play, not individual play?
