I would guess that devd is calling ifup there, not the ifupdown initscript. The PATH may be inherited from devd. > * There are still, after installing the soft link, > multiple complaints that "/run/network/ifstate" > does not exists If I remember this right, that's caused by devd trying to hotplug the interface, too early in the boot sequence for it to work (probably before /run is mounted). I imagine it's harmless because configured interfaces are brought up later by ifupdown, so this just causes noise at boot.
