Also happens with the perl in sid (5.12.4), reduced down to perl -Mthreads -e 'threads->create(sub {})->detach; fork' which crashes non-deterministically about half the time for me. I don't see this on a "real" FreeBSD system (8.2-RELEASE), nor on Linux. I'll report it upstream, but it seems possible that the problem is more on the libc / kernel side.
