Ah, right. Does kFreeBSD have or even need a package which provides the equivalent feature? That is: working sound with sane PCM volume level by default (i.e. without having to use a tool to raise it from muted). I see that kernel-wedge already has the sound-modules package filled, good. That being said, kFreeBSD does not have a kernel screen reader, so do not even try to run espeakup, it will simply not work due to lack of /dev/softsynth device.
