Yes, Bug#612128 was not about camcontrol, despite the misleading title. As I mentioned, after downgrading libgeom0 to 8.1-5, everything works fine. Upgrading libgeom0 to 8.2-2 and running dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc reproduces the problem again. Why would a GRUB rebuild help? My previous question about whether this is reproducible on other people's machines was not rhetorical.
