According to http://wiki.freebsd.org/NFSv4_ACLs this is an extension of POSIX.1e ACLs, and FreeBSD 8.1 was released with support for NFSv4 ACLs (both in kernel and userland). coreutils support POSIX.1e via libacl, however, support isn't enabled in official builds. Please could you rebuild coreutils with this patch? -- Robert Millan
