   ok I just hope they didn't change the /dev/ppp interface.


oh, my point is that (i think that) the userland ppp doesn't use
/dev/ppp but /dev/tun... ie, it doesn't require any in-kernel ppp
support, just uses the generic "tunnel" (tun(4)) device...
