The installation is preseeded from the old environment on flash, that is the configuration in the config partition of the original thecus firmware. This makes sense for the initial install, but less so when doing a reinstallation. In this case the old firmware was installed with a static ip, which didn't make any sense at all in the network i was installing in. The big issue was that i couldn't configure a custom mirror or even select a country mirror. After some debugging it turned out that the newt frontend immediately returned backup instead of actually showing the UI bits.
